N.B Not to be confused with Azealia Banks.
So far, it’s Iggy Azalea’s ass that’s been getting the most
attention. Sure, Work is the Australian rapper's comment on women using sex appeal to find success (“Valley
girls giving blow-jobs for Louboutins, what’cha call that? Head over heels?”),
but when people are more concerned with your body than your music you know
something’s not quite right. Though I
guess that’s the irony, right? Azalea’s
style is like Nicki Minaj meets Ke$ha – she might be white, but musically she
adds little to the genre of female rap.
But then there’s that beat; the “work work work” chorus
hook; the easy flow and delivery; the aggressive sexuality. It might not be novel, but you’d be hard
pressed not to get your grind on when the beats kicks in. Love it or hate it, it’s clear that Iggy
Azalea is a name we’ll be hearing a lot more of before the year’s end.
