N.E.R.D & Rihanna - Lemon
Over the last few years, Pharrell's been pretty busy soundtracking kids films, discovering new pop artists and making a really bad solo album back in 2014. With Lemon he's returning to the N.E.R.D name, with scuzzy beats and glitchy production, though he's completely overshadowed here by the Rihanna feature. She has a habit of doing that doesn't she?
Eves Karydas - There For You
Previously known as Eves The Behaviour, Eves Karydas has now moved to Island to release music under her actual name. There's a touch of Lana Del Rey to her drawling vocal, matching ennui with grand production and polished synths, but this is a much more modern track. With major label backing, Karydas is a strong future prospect for 2018.
David Guetta & Afrojack feat. Charli XCX and French Montana
How many people does it take to create a hit record? How much input do they all really have? Either way, this is a fun, fizzy dance-pop track with a catchy chorus. And for Charli XCX, it's an important opportunity to hit a mass audience after Boys failed to hit smash hit status.
Julie Bergan - Incapable
Norway's Julie Bergan has released a handful of slick but predictable singles that haven't quite stuck. But with Incapable she offers her most earnest vocal yet, building towards that soaring power pop chorus in which she cries out "I'm incapable of falling for you". It's her best song yet.
Kygo feat. One Republic - Stranger Things
One way to get your track noticed is to release it with the same name and at the same time as a popular TV show. Come on SEO! Give it a listen, though, and this is a twinkling dreamy pop track that has something of the tropical house Kygo's known for with the euphoric pop of Ryan Tedder and co. That said, it'll do nothing for the producer's detractors, even as he branches out with new collaborations.
Allie X feat. VÉRITÉ - Casanova
Fans of Allie X will know this track was part of her 'CollXtion II' album earlier in the year. But now she's joined by US singer VÉRITÉ. It doesn't really change the track much, but any excuse to listen to this again right?
Sia - Santa's Coming For Us
The first release from Sia's forthcoming Christmas album, this is going to get really annoying really quickly. And it's only November...
