Banks - Goddess

After the success of her ‘London’ EP amongst other tracks (including Brain released back in March), L.A singer Banks has finally announced the title and release date of her debut album ‘Goddess’.  And there’s a new song to go with it, handily with the same name.

Over the course of the last few months Banks has certainly become the bloggers darling (guilty!), with plenty of ‘ones to watch in 2014’ nominations and, more recently, jam-packed showcases at SXSW and Coachella.  To be fair, her seductively dark brand of R&B is impossible not to fall for and Goddess is another triumph.

By now you know the formula: sparse beats, brooding synths and that hauntingly sensual vocal.  Goddess is no different as she warns “You’re fuckin’ with a goddess and you get a little colder” over minimal production that sounds like warped sounds in a vacuum.  Her sound differs little from track to track, which could become monotonous across a whole album, but as a standalone single this track is atmospheric, menacing and enchanting all at once.  Which is exactly what Banks does best.
