For fans of soul music, if Lulu James isn't yet on your radar then she damn well should be. With a sense of style and cheekbones to rival Grace Jones, her 21st century soul sound glitters as much as her outfits.
Step By Step harks back to the disco-soul of Donna Summer's I Feel Love in its combination of smooth vocals and urgent synth riffs, but with a far more futuristic club sound. Squelching basslines, strobing synths, house beats and James' rich, soulful vocal combine in a track that cannot fail to get you dancing in your chair. Just as with previous release Closer, James is on to a winner.
